This SHOOK Me Up…

[I really want your opinion on something really weird, but first, let’s get through the story, then you can leave your thoughts on this weird incident below…]

Last night, I was driving home from the gym.

It was a dark and dreary evening and I felt a different mood in the night…

I had just merged onto the highway home and this grey 4-door sedan in front of me was slowing down because some yellow sedan next to it was trying to merge and neither of them was taking the initiative to make it happen.

I was thinking, "Come on guys, get in already" when I looked back into my rearview mirror and I saw a pair of lights barreling towards me…

I quickly glanced in the driver’s side mirror to see if I could escape but there was no time and *BOOM* I got smashed!

My car spun once or twice ( I can’t quite remember) and I felt like I was floating in space as I was being thrown forwards.

A fleeting thought of, "Oh shit I hope nothing hits me" went through my mind as I was spinning and hurtling forwards but that’s all I can recall thinking at the time.

When my car finally came to a stop, I was luckily on the shoulder, but I was facing the wrong way.

I tried to open the door but it was stuck, so I lowered the window and climbed out.

I made my way across the highway to call 9-1-1 from a safe spot and the cops quickly came.

As of writing this (less than 12 hours since the accident) I feel pretty good.

A little stiff in the neck, but nothing serious, so don’t worry about me – I’ll be back to post killer exercise tips and all that stuff soon. 🙂

Here are a few pics of the carnage (click to view larger image):

In my shock I even took a quick vid which you can watch here:

At The Scene of the Crash Video
(It’s in QuickTime format, if you can’t watch it, no worries)

Here’s Where It Gets Really, REALLY Freaky…

After I got home and hugged my fiancee, she told me that before she left for work, she had a bad feeling…

Not only that, but she also (uncharacteristically) read the news online at work, because it was a slow day.

Usually she’d check her email or look for wedding dresses or shoes, you know typical fiancee stuff. 🙂

But she read the news and actually sent me a text message about an accident that happened AT THE EXACT SPOT WHERE I GOT INTO MY ACCIDENT!@#… just in case I was going that way so I could avoid traffic.

Coincidence or something more?

That’s what I want to know, so I have this question for you:

Have you ever had something happen where
you, or someone you love has had a ‘gut’
feeling like this and it turned out to be true?

I just read a book last week called ‘Intuition’ by Osho where he talks about how we are intuitive beings at birth, but it’s erased and inhibited through societal programming.

I thought it was interesting but have never had personal experience with intuition, until now.

So please, if you’ve had any experience with something like this, share your story below, or if you believe in intuition or not (and why), leave your thoughts in the Comments section below.

I’m really trying to understand if what my fiancee was feeling and her message to me was just a coincidence, or really was intuition.

Maybe if my fiancee and I trusted intuition more, I could’ve avoided this accident.

And if you know anyone who has had a similar experience, share this post with them because I’m very interested in hearing other stories.

ps. If anyone wants to buy some 16" rims to fit a Honda Civic or Acura Integra, please contact me. 🙂

Glad your alright your insight is priceless! Yes i have feelings like that all the time and my family and friends like to tell me that i am just paranoid or pessimistic but time and time again i have basically called events before they happen, no way to explain it and im honestly very happy to hear that i am not the only one feeling this. Just last week i told my cousin to come to church with me randomly while watching UFC 121 because i had a feeling that he needed to be there for some reason. He was planning on driving up to College station to visit some friends but i guess it really got to him. He went to church with me and as soon as we got out of church we went back to his house to find my aunt on the ground in pain and… Read more »

Hi Eric! It is “the art of fighting without fighting” which saved you unscathed. Each one of us on this planet are connected to every one else through the “web of life”. More so are lovers, family members, friends connected through ESP. We are all energy beings in physical form, experiencing life like a holographic projection from our Source. Sixth sense, premonition, gut feeling are all the same way of putting across the term ESP (extra sensory perception) which anybody can fully develop through the latest researches on the power of our subconscious mind / right brain. ESP has been used by the military agencies of the USA, Russia and other countries in the form of “remote viewing”. I am just now studying on how to develop and harness ESP for bettering my day to day life through the “Silva Ultra Mind ESP” system. Wish You A Safe Journey Your… Read more »

Wow, that sucks Eric. But I’m glad you are ok, that’s the main thing.

I have to say there have been several times when I’ve gotten that “gut feeling” and it has turned out to be accurate. I guess it’s like a 6th sense or something… spooky stuff 🙂

All I can say is this… I read your story and when I got to the part where you started talking about your fiancee It gave me the chills. Then, while reading the comments, someone had mentioned God…and as I read that, I again got the chills. I don’t know man, but as much as I don’t want to admit it and the older I get, the more I think that what Sean is saying is right-That everything does happen for a reason.

Glad to hear your OK. One of those things where your thankful, since it can and could have been so much worse.
I’ve had numerous episodes of ‘intuition’, but have considered it a ‘sixth sense’ explanation.
The craziest one is when I hesitated to blast through an intersection when the light turned green. I normally floored it to get home but on that particular day I hesitated. Upon hesitation a car barreled through the intersection from the intersecting traffic!
Had I floored it I would have been in that cars path. Still spooks me to this day.
My wife and I always say: Everything happens for a reason.
Glad your around to tell your tale.

Yikes… Glad to hear that you’re okay. That is creepy man. I would have to agree with Osho. I believe there is something more than just the 5 senses and what we know to be scientific perception. Whether you believe its divine providence from the Creator, or a single consciousness or energy that humans are intuitively connected to (but like Osho said, have forgotten over time). About 5 years ago we were babysitting my little cousin, she was only about 1 or 2 at the time. She was playing with the phone, and we didn’t think she’d call anyone. Few minutes later we get a call back from the fire dept. Says we called a total of 3 times and all they heard was a kid. The emergency number here in Australia is 000. What is weird, is that you have to specifically ASK for the fire dept. everytime you… Read more »

hey eric, thank god ur ok.i think that eveything has a reason.and therefor nothing is coincedence.u should ponder about the fact that it could have been worse so actually u have been givin a second chance.women tend to be more sensitive to intuition then men.my wife dreams of something and it always happens!look at the comments and u will find that MOSTLY women have that feeling.i dont know why but its like that.think about life and why we are here.no b.s. stories.think.we are not here by coincedence.in the only living planet that soars trough the galaxy with the exact distance from the sun without major injuries even though we are not the only thing in the galaxy!science says it is all calculated so NO COINCEDENCE.i wish u all the luck and want to thank u for sharing ur knowledge with us all.

Inspiration.
Everyone has it in some degree, it’s called “The light of Christ” in the scriptures. Stay “tuned”, pay attention, and it will guide you for your benefit. Some times immediately, other times in ways you won’t understand until years later.

PD:
In answer to the “patterns” comment, posted earlier: Yes, we seek patterns. And when we find them, they help us understand better the world in which we live, and how to get along better. Finding patterns has allowed science to discover very important laws of nature -the law of gravity, for instance-.

Hope you get well soon.
Be grateful.
And give your fiancee another hug. 🙂

I do believe in intuition … whether one believes in God or not. A very good friend of mine, who expresses no personal interest in “God”, has warned me a few times about things just “not being right” about something I’d said I had planned. She lives on the opposite side of the country, and doesn’t follow the local news where I live. But, the day I broke my leg on my motorcycle she knew something bad was gonna happen. It was an interesting conversation afterward as she explained her gut feel about it, and the concern that was brewing inside her all the day leading up to when it happened. She had no way to warn me ahead of time. There have been many other times when we talked on the phone or something and she told me of a bad feeling about something, and I heeded it and… Read more »

Glad you’re OK. yeah, I was in an accident when I was in highschool. I got hit head on by a guy going the wrong way (luckily I don’t remember anything). Here’s the freaky – the official time of the accident (according to police reports) was 8:08 PM August 8th, 1988. That’s 8/8/88 at 8:08PM. Yeah, I’m not much of a believer in superstition, but for awhile, I didn’t drive on that day. Everyone, eventually, ended up OK physically. When the EMT’s pulled up on the scene, they looked at the car I was in, and said to each other, “no in that car is alive”. Somehow, we were. The EMT’s were so astounded, that they came to see me a couple days later after I had regained consciousness to tell me. The bummer – The police called my parents, and told them to come to the hospital. On the… Read more »

There was a day years ago when my husband was going to take the kids to the beach and give me a day to myself. As they were getting ready to leave, I had this gut feeling that something horrible was going to happen if they left. A car accident? A drowning? I had no idea. But my husband believed me and stayed home, and nothing happened.

Absolutely impossible to know if the whole thing was b.s. or not, but I believe in listening to gut feelings.

Glad you’re OK. Being in superb physical shape sure doesn’t hurt. Some people in horrid condition get whiplash from carnival rides.

I worked as an otr trucker for years. Some times a funny thing would happen kind of like da ja vu. You would come on accidents in the same places. I came to understand that road and weather conditions made some places repeatedly dangerous. So I would come on similar accidents in the same places and at the same times. Could the highway be improved to make it safer? I think every state and province has improved as they replace and repair. Will they ever be totally safe, no driving is inherently dangerous and humans make errors. Glad to hear you are ok! Mike

Glad to know you are fine. We are surrounded by so many laws that it can be hard to actualy know if this was your fiancee intuition or did the accident happen becuase she put it out there. Ever watch the Matrix movies? movie number one: The oracle is baking cookies and is lighting a cigarette and said “watch that in referance to the vase” (she is speaking to Kiana Reeves). And the vase falls down. Than she said: “what is going to cook your noodle is would the vase have fallen if she had said nothing”. We are creators and manifesters of our lives..even things we think do mot matter. So with that said my question to you is what did you learn from the experience?

I would tend to shy away from the power of a fleeting thought creating an event like that just because I have crazy fleeting thoughts all the time that don’t originate in the gut, but more in the head…

I think the intuition feeling tends to come more from the ‘gut’ hence the term… Just my thoughts though of course I don’t claim to be an expert on this, which is why I want to hear other people’s experiences and stories…

And what did I learn? I learned a LOT from this… I’ve been thinking about it non-stop and it’s already resulted in some extremely positive changes in my life.

Eric, glad everything worked out for you. I totaled my 2007 Civic in January and had no long lasting effects (I also felt fine ver ysoon afterwards)

Your situation is definitely coincidence though. Humans are pattern seeking animals and as such we have tendency to look for patterns in things.

For example, if you have a bad feeling and then something bad happens a connection is made like this. Really think about it: How many times have you had a bad feeling and nothing happened? It happens all the time. We’re just really good at remembering the strange things that happen and not the normal.

Eric! First off, so happy to hear that you’re ok!! Definitely a freaky ending to your story. I can also say that I am a strong believer in intuition. I might not have felt as strongly about that belief before, but my perspective on this has definitely changed. For example, I can relate to your experience as I’ve also been rear-ended in a car accident before. Here’s where it gets weird … The night of the accident, a group of us were supposed to go out and celebrate a friend’s birthday in Toronto. As the day progressed, one by one, people started to bail and only myself and the birthday girl were left to decide whether to keep the plans or not. I was on the fence about it, but she seemed pretty bummed, so I decided just the two of us should go anyway. On the way home, we… Read more »

Hi Eric, Glad you’re ok! Blimey, that sounds very scary. Intution…agree with the post above that it slowly gets eroded by other people’s realities, and comments like “you’re just being paranoid”..etc My biggest – finest? – moment of intution was when I was fourteen. My mum was driving me to Manchester (UK) to buy some clothes for a holiday. Normally we’re both raring to get spending money on pretty things 😉 And especially in Manchester…but that morning, we both woke up really late, having slept through our alarms (this NEVER happens – we are both early risers whether we want to or not), and neither of us were in any much of a hurry to go. We had planned to be there for late morning but we were both complaining of butterflies in our tummies that left us feeling tired and lethargic and we were really late out the door.… Read more »

Heee! Well my new black gi is also included in shopping for “pretty things” 😉

I got into martial arts through having private self defence sessions with the woman who is now my sempei, and she always, without question, maintains that you should trust your gut instinct and use it to avoid trouble, with defence techniques as a last resort.

And what is gut instinct if not intuition? It’s just different words for the same things. Gut instinct saw primative man through to survival, and it’s there in every one of us. It’s just gotten lazy through modern technology and society…we don’t need to rely on the instincts we were born with. There are signs everywhere for what is about to happen…even if it’s just a simple recognition of what the air smells like when it’s about to rain 🙂

Hi Eric, Glad you’re OK. That kind of thing is always enough to scare the crap out of you and make you take stock of the good things in your life. I’m a huge believer in intuition. Some people have a stronger sense of it than others but I believe we can all cultivate it with practice. It’s that gut feeling you get when you’re around danger or around someone who gives you bad vibes. I’ve had numerous experiences with it. Unfortunately, in the beginning, I hardly heeded it. I would shrug it off and then later would pay the consequences. Those would include anything from getting taken advantage of by scamming users or actual physical injuries. One example is when I was about to take a break from a martial arts class. I knew that it would be my last day before taking a hiatus so I really wanted… Read more »
