Active Recovery Workouts

If you’re not feeling 100% for a hard training session, but you still want to do something, then you might want to think about doing an Active Recovery Workout.

But the type of workout you do depends on what you’re recovering from.

Check the latest Ask EricWongMMA video here where I discuss this topic:

To follow up on this video, one point that I want to really make clear is that building in Active Recovery Workouts is probably less beneficial than learning when your body needs one.

Like I said in the video above, the symptoms include:

1) You don’t have that high end ‘pop’ type of energy – Central Fatigue

2) Excessive muscle soreness – Local/Muscular Fatigue

For #1, you can train your whole body, just don’t train too intensely.

For #2, it’s very local, so say your chest is sore, you can still train your legs hard, but you may want to throw in some light movements for the chest to increase blood flow to the muscles to speed their recovery. It’s also a good idea to stretch the chest so the muscles don’t shorten.

Good advice..
I usually use swimming (works every muscle and relaxes them at the same time) and stretching (done after swimming every muscle is warm and relaxed and you can really get a good stretch without injury), in this order, 45 mins each, as my active recovery, and it works wonders.. if i’m really sore i do some foam rolling too..
Just one question.. i use strength training too, should i up the volume on the pulling exercises to balance all the pushing i get from my mma training ?
Keep it up..
Thx
