5 Time-Saving Nutrition Tips

Need to save time? Don’t we all.

Here are 5 great tips for saving time in the kitchen.

1) Buy a pair of kitchen scissors

This is my favourite thing to use in the kitchen. Cutting meat makes it cook faster and every meal needs some fresh meat. But cutting it also is messy, takes a long time and can saw your meat to shreds.

Instead, snip the meat up with scissors. You can cut smaller pieces (which cook faster) more precisely and cut it right into the pan you’re cooking it in, making less dishes to clean like knives and cutting boards.

Best thing ever. Get em.

2) Cook in bulk

If you’re feeding 2 people when you cook, cook like you’re feeding 4 and store the rest. Nothing beats having food already cooked that you can heat up and chow down on, especially when you’re hungry and short on time.

Right now, I’ve got BBQ’d Greek shish kebabs (thanks to Dave ‘The Muscle Cook’ Ruel!), chicken stir-fry, rice and some other stuff I hope is not moldy waiting for me in the fridge because of this technique.

3) When you buy your fruits and veggies, wash and dry them the same day

This one really, really helps. Especially things like lettuce. Buy romaine lettuce, rip off each big leaf, wash it, dry it, then put it in the fridge. You’ll triple the amount of salads you eat doing this.

4) Start cooking the thing that takes the longest, FIRST

I’ve done this a couple of times, I’ll be excited to go BBQ the steak and I’ll forget to put the potatoes in until the steak is halfway done.

Steak = 10-15 minutes

Potatoes = 30-40 minutes

The steak was still yummy, but the taters aren’t the same without some good meat attached.

5) Get a Magic Bullet

The thing is awesome. When I moved in with my girlfriend, she brought a Magic Bullet with her.

I kept the bullet and lost the girlfriend and my time has tripled! Just kidding. We’re engaged now. Honey, if you’re reading, I’ll rub your feet later. 🙂

Seriously. The bullet rocks. Plus it comes with these screw-on covers that make it perfect to take with you on the go and you don’t really need to wash it, just a quick rinse after you’re done and all is good (so far).

Okay we’re done!

In the spirit of saving time, no long close here.

Eric- The magic bullet makes the best Guacamole: 1 Avacado, juice from 1/2 small lime, a pinch of minced garlic and a pinch of sea salt. Blend to consistency of sour cream. Use with left over steak or chicken and some fried onions and peppers for great protein/fat meal.

@Rich,

No doubt! See you and the new baby soon.

@Sin,

One of my mentors always said, “Knowledge is not power, APPLIED knowledge is power.”

GREAT quote btw!

@George,

That’s hilarious – anything you can do to get in extra movement is a good thing. Curious – how big are your calves??

When using my electric razor I have a mirror at Squat level and another at calf raise level. Then I squat and calf raise using the time the razor is working.

Thanks Eric! Thanks you for sharing the most powerful tool “Knowledge”

Great piece of advice especially for us athletes. Between our day job and M-M-Art training it is hard enough to find time in order to prepare a nutritional meal. I used to be a cook at a Chinese restaurant so I know preparation is key to how quick dinner is served…Being well prepared is also a big key part of a Martial artist.. Old Chine$e saying ”RAGING WAR” In training the more we bleed and sweat, the less bloodshed in battle”

I have the magic bullet and couldn’t agree more, it’s so easy to use, and with the mixer being the cup, all you do is snap on the lid and go!

Love all your e mails, tip and tricks! keep up the great work you are an inspiration!

Blend. An apple, banana, peaches, spinich, and a tomato with a slap of yogurt and a little OJ…takes less than 2 minutes to make and gives you a quick dose of fruit and veggies. Even a crappy blender will get it into drinkable form.
