  • Amazing No-Flour Cashew Butter Muffin Recipe!

This recipe always amazes me and others who try it.

"What, this has no flour? Impossible!"

"Really, no flour, are you serious?"

I once even observed the placebo effect in action where someone was assured there was no flour in the recipe, but got bloated and gassy just as they normally would’ve had they eaten a normal muffin, because of their gluten intolerance.

Weird stuff and just goes to show the power of the mind.

Anyway, they’re also super easy to make and they’re so tasty you’ll want to eat the whole tray.

But don’t – you’ll get just as fat eating these healthy muffins as you would eating regular muffins. 😛

    Here’s what you need:

  • Poisonous Protein Powders

In July, Consumer Reports magazine tested 15 protein powders for levels of 4 heavy metals:

    1. Lead
    2. Arsenic
    3. Mercury
    4. Cadmium

At certain levels, these heavy metals can be poisonous.

The worst thing is that they will accumulate over time so if you continue to use these products, you’ll accumulate more and more poisons in your system and they may reach a level that causes negative health effects.

What are these brands and what are the levels of these poisons?

Check out this chart first then I’ll explain more below:

  • High Protein Vanilla-Blueberry Muffin Recipe

OK so I’ve been going a little crazy in the kitchen ever since I got my hands on my buddy Dave’s cookbook (I had his ‘Beef Bombs’ for dinner) so I’d like to share another solid high protein recipe with you…

I’ve gotten him to hook you up with a 50% off discount (only until Friday at midnight) on his Anabolic Cooking package that includes over 200 tasty recipes so go check it out here:

==> Dave Ruel’s Anabolic Cooking Cookbook for 50% off

Now you’re not going to use all 200 recipes, so the key is when you get the book, skim through it and pick out 6 or 7 that look good to you and try them out.

If you like em’, stick em in your repertoire.

Think of knowing a lot of recipes as an MMA fight

One guy is proficient in BJJ, Muay Thai, Boxing, Wrestling and has good strength and cardio, while the other guy is just a Muay Thai fighter.

Who’s got a better chance of winning?

One of the biggest things that sabotages your nutrition is getting bored with cooking and not enjoying what you cook – when this happens you usually end up going out and getting something not so good for you.

So improve your skills in the kitchen by investing in a good cookbook and you’ll save money, improve your physique and increase your performance in the gym.

One thing you might be worried about is that you’re not a bodybuilder…

When it comes to nutrition – these guys know how to eat. You don’t have to eat as much and you definitely don’t want to train like they do, but high protein, healthy carbs and good fats are how we should all be eating.

It’s just knowing how to make it happen in the kitchen with recipes you enjoy that will make you successful long-term.

    On to the recipe…

The recipe I’m going to share with you today is for muffins – something that’s notriously bad for your energy/physique but now that I’ve learned this recipe, I’ve been able to eat muffins guilt-free!

Best time to eat these guys is either for breakfast or after training, as they still have carbs, but they’re equally packed with protein.

    And, they’re delicious!

  • 5 Time-Saving Nutrition Tips

Need to save time? Don’t we all.

Here are 5 great tips for saving time in the kitchen.

    1) Buy a pair of kitchen scissors

This is my favourite thing to use in the kitchen. Cutting meat makes it cook faster and every meal needs some fresh meat. But cutting it also is messy, takes a long time and can saw your meat to shreds.

Instead, snip the meat up with scissors. You can cut smaller pieces (which cook faster) more precisely and cut it right into the pan you’re cooking it in, making less dishes to clean like knives and cutting boards.

    Best thing ever. Get em.

  • MMA Day in Toronto (Queens Park)

As you may or may not know, our favourite sport of MMA is not allowed in my home province of Ontario…

Apparently the ‘brutality’ and ‘violence’ is too much to handle – yet boxing and kickboxing are allowed.

    Makes complete sense, right?

Yup, I thought so too… NOT! (when was the last time you heard NOT???)

  • Make Your Meat Tasty

Your ability to cook plays a huge role in your quest for a lean, muscular body and peak performance.

If you want to be strong, shredded and live a long, healthy life, make it a priority to improve your cooking.

Now notice I said, "Improve your cooking" not "Be a gourmet French chef."

Most young guys have no idea what to do in the kitchen.

Luckily I grew up in a household where all of our meals were home made vs. already prepared… I picked up a lot from my parents in the kitchen for sure!

I see cooking as a time to relax and reconnect with the earth, which is why the ingredients you use should come from the earth, not from some lab.

Think about it – there are only a few activities that we do today that humans did hundreds of thousands of years ago.

    Cooking & eating.

The eventual elimination of what was cooked and ate.

    Sex.

drunkAnd maybe pulling pranks on the first guy to pass out.

I know for a fact if I was a caveman I’d find some coal or something to draw on Rex. Poor Rex is always the first to go!

Anyway, by far the biggest question I get from guys is, "How do I cook meat?"

It’s so mind-boggling to me because I’ve cooked for myself since I was 15.

Not all the time, but once in a while I would fire up a steak or something if mommy wasn’t around to feed me.

Now I’m going to share my easy meat cooking guidelines so you can start getting quality protein in without all the sugary sauces (almost every sauce on prepared meat has loads of sugar) , preservatives, or other physique-sabotaging ingredients.

  • Hydration Strategies

It’s been a while since my last nutrition post… sorry for that – but I’ve been caught up in training mode since I’m prepping for a boxing fight…

So today’s topic is one that’s very important – hydration.

I’ve chosen this topic because I was woken up this morning by the mailman with a package that contained my new water filter. You’ll learn more about this later.

    water

I know staying hydrated isn’t the sexiest or most bad-ass topic I could talk about, but it deserves a piece, so I figured I’d get it done then talk about how to choose the juiciest and ripest melons next time. :O

BUT, if you stick around, I promise you’ll learn a thing or two that will improve your performance, health, and even help you lean out.

  • My Supplement Secrets – Part 2

Thanks to everyone who posted a comment / question on Part 1 – I appreciate the feedback and as promised, here are #2 and #3.

Doctor Wong’s Supplement Secret #2 – Cheap and Easy Fat Burning ‘Supplement’

This one is super easy – all you’ve gotta do is drink a cup of coffee (250-300 ml) about an hour before your workout.

cup_of_coffeeIf it’s drip coffee, a cup has about 150-200 mg of caffeine, which is right around the amount that you want to increase fat burning.

Caffeine helps to burn fat by triggering your body to release more fat from cells for energy use, and it also ramps your nervous system up a bit, which can help you train harder.

Unfortunately, if you’re a coffee addict, you’re going to be desensitized to the caffeine, so it’s a good reason for you to get your habit under control.

Seriously – lots of guys are addicted to coffee and miss out on its fat burning properties because of it.

So if you’re drinking more than a cup in the morning, try to cut it down, and learn how to drink it black, as the sugar and cream aren’t doing you any good.

One thing to note is that if you’re training in the evening at 5pm or after, you may want to avoid this tip, as the caffeine might keep you up, which will hamper your recovery if you can’t sleep.

But if you know you can sleep no prob, then go for it.

Compare the price of a cup of home-brewed coffee to a fat burning supplement like Hydroxycut and you’ll quickly save mucho dineros.

    On to #3…

  • My Supplement Secrets (Save Big $$$)

If you’ve ever read through an MMA mag like Tapout, FIGHT!, Ultimate MMA, or any of the big ones on the racks at your local Chapters (or Borders, for you south of the border), you may have noticed that every other ad is for some new supplement that basically promises…

Take This New HF-33 ISO MaxX XTREME and
You’ll Turn Into Thiago Alves INSTANTLY

Unfortunately, tons and tons of guys fall for the hype and misinformation…

If that’s you, don’t worry, it’s not your fault.

MMA is a crazy sport and it takes a ton of time, dedication, and hard work, so these shortcuts promised by the supplement mafia seem like they’re worth giving a shot.

But they don’t work. Sorry to burst your bubble, but most supplements are garbage, and some might even get you to piss positive, hurting your career and embarrassing you in the process.

However, there are some supplements that are tried and tested and will help improve your results, assuming that your training and nutrition are there first.

Remember, they’re called SUPPLEMENTS for a reason – to supplement a solid diet and effective training program. (You’ll get both in my Ultimate MMA Strength and Conditioning Program)

Anyway – I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve that will help you get the best supplements you can on a shoestring budget.

Doctor Wong’s Supplement Secret #1 – Pre/Post Workout Shakes on a Budget (That Actually Taste Good!)

OK so pre and post-workout nutrition is often a heated topic, with people getting into fiery debates about the exact amounts and ratios of nutrients to get the maximum effect.

But to get so into depth on such a small topic is a big waste of your time and energy, and ultimately, your money.

So here’s what you can do to get a solid pre (during) and post workout shake in without breaking the bank:

    1. Buy some unflavoured whey protein isolate (or concentrate is fine too, it just doesn’t mix as well). It costs me $30 for 2 lbs of whey isolate at my grocery store.
    2. Buy your favourite juice. My choice is the No Name frozen pineapple juice – it costs $1.19 at the grocery store and I just mix it up with water and go.

PRE (DURING) WORKOUT: I’ll mix up 1 cup of juice, which gives me about 30 grams of carbs coming from sugar, and about 1/2 scoop of whey, which gives me about 15 grams of protein. A perfect 2:1 ratio of carbs to protein to fuel my workout and make sure my muscles have some nutrients for energy and rebuilding

POST WORKOUT: I’ll mix up 1.5 cups of juice and a full scoop of protein. This gives me about 45 grams of carbs and 27 grams of protein, again, about a perfect ratio of what I want post-workout to maintain muscle and replenish energy stores.

If you’re working to build muscle, you can toss some creatine in both drinks. Just buy the regular, German creatine and you’re good to go.

    Why is this so good?

Because it’s cheap and you don’t have to feel like an idiot after you spend $100 on a bottle of hype and end up exactly the same as you were before.

And it tastes like your favourite juice, just a little bit creamier. So there’s no worrying if you’ll like the Double Mocha Java Chocolate or Banana Berry Blaster flavours – you know what juice you like so you’ll never be surprised (or disappointed).

I’ve got a couple more great supplement tricks up my sleeve, but I want to hear your comments, any of your tricks, or just anything before I post them. I want to beat the most commented post on my blog (48), so…

… give me 49 or more comments and I’ll hit you up with the #2 (killer fat loss supplement trick) and #3 (fat loss, cancer prevention, brain health, and more!)
