ANACONDA Chinups – Catch Crazy Subz!

Not much needs to be said about this exercise that I’ve just come up with other than the fact that it’s FUCKING AWESOME.

If you can do this, you’re a boss.

If you’re not currently able to do this, focus and consistency will get you here, if you want to get here.

And why wouldn’t you want to get here?

This is the next level. It’s waiting:

Da link I mentioned: Here I Am

    What do you think?

    Stupid or awesome?

  • Beginner Muscle Up Tips

    Toronto Waterfront

I was out for a run down the Toronto waterfront on a couple weekends ago and I stumbled upon a group of about 20 dudes working out in the park. To give you a mental picture, they were mostly black guys, a couple of white guys, and I was the only Asian.

It was like I was walking into those videos of a bunch of brothers doing crazy things on the bars:

So I hung around, started talking witih some of the guys and jumped in.

One of the guys, Dwayne, runs a personal training business called Body by Chosen that operates in Toronto. A bunch of the other guys are trainers too.

I’d actually never tried a Muscleup before. A few of the guys made it look easy, so I watched their mechanics to see what they were doing and jumped in… I gave it a shot, but didn’t get it. Wuss. But I knew I’d get it sooner or later.

Since then, I’d been meaning to get out to the park to practice them, but just didn’t get around to it until this past Friday. I gave it a shot and lo and behold, I’ve just done my first Muscleup. It feels pretty cool and I think it’s as much a display of skill as it is of strength.

I wasn’t able to do it right off the bat. In fact, I spent about 45 minutes at the park by myself “practicing”. I got my first one by jumping up on the bar and going into the Muscleup from there. It was an awesome feeling.

Now, I want YOU to get the same feeling I got.

That’s why I put this video together for you. Check it:

Some more basic exercises that will help you do your first muscle up:

    • Dips
    • Straight-arm Pulldowns
    • Standing Tricep Extensions with a Cable Machine
    • Hanging Leg Raises

But if you can bang out 10 Pullups to your sternum already, you’ve probably got the strength to do a muscle up, now it’s all about PRACTICE.

So get out there. Get some sun. Do your first muscle up. And feel like a beast.

  • 1 Simple Trick to DOUBLE Your Chinups

I was running around the other day, busy as a madman, driving to and fro, but I needed to get a workout in.

Because I wasn’t near my gym, I drove to the local YMCA and bought a day pass.

Sure, it was $15, but when it comes to my personal fitness, I take it seriously.

Those thoughts of, "Is this worth it?" are quickly erased when I look back and think of all of the times I’ve spent $15, or much, much more on things far less important than my fitness.

T-shirts that don’t fit right. A couple of beers at a bar. ONE beer at a baseball game.

Long story short, I bought the pass and had one of the BEST workouts in a while.

    Here’s why…

  • How to Do Chinups

If you live in Ontario like I do, you were lucky to celebrate your first Family Day ever today.  Thanks Liberal government of Ontario – you’re the best at giving us days off!

To celebrate Family Day, I’ve decided to publish an instructional video featuring my niece Maddie (listen for what she says at the end of the set – it’s hilarious!).

Now for real, if you’re doing chinups, MAKE SURE you do these things:

    1. Use a full range of motion
    2. Puff your chest out at the top by pulling your shoulders down and back
    3. Stop when your form gets ugly, or use negatives by jumping up to the top, holding good form, then lowering slowly

If you get good at chinups, moves like this one will be a lot easier to pull off:

    I can't believe I got caught...
    I can't believe I got caught…
