    Dealing with a LOSS

Sooner or later, chances are pretty likely that you’re going to lose.

For whatever reason, physical, mental, injury or just the moon being in the wrong alignment, you will lose and it will suck. How you deal with it is the important thing.

But we often read or watch interviews with fighters and if they’ve just lost, it’s often the same old, “Well I’ll just have to go back to the drawing board and come back stronger.”

So I wanted to interview my bud Alan Belcher to get some more insights into how pros deal with losses.

His latest bout was against Michael Bisping on April 28 at UFC 159, which he lost due to a Technical Decision after getting poked in the same eye that he almost lost to an injury back in 2010.

Of course, I didn’t want to get in there right away so he’d have time to regroup, but I figured a month and a bit was enough time for him to do his thing.

He was gracious enough to accept my invitation and here’s some of the stuff we discussed:

    [green_plus_list width=”100%”]

    • How much footage of his opponent he watches before a fight
    • If he watches his fights after they go down
    • What his mental game was like during the fight with Bisping
    • BREAKING NEWS about his career plans that might surprise you, especially since he’s still relatively young at 29 years old
    • What was going through his head after he got poked in they eye
    • How to get free training with Alan and his team though his new sponsorship program
    • And a shit load more![/green_plus_list]

It’s 34 minutes long and well worth the listen, so play it now, download it to your iPhone or get it setup so you can listen in the car.

  • The First MMA Fight…

For all you guys looking to have (and win) your first fight, you have to read this entire interview that I did with a young guy named Steven Rao.

He’s in the UK and I’ve talked to him a couple of times about training, and he emailed me telling me he won his first MMA fight, so I asked if I could interview him for you.

    Check it out!

  • What NOT To Do in an Interview (+ 5 Things To Do)

If you’re looking to make a career out of MMA, then you’ll definitely want to check out these 5 tips for conducting interviews that my friend Yael allowed me to share with you.

She’s a writer for MMA magazines such as Ultimate MMA and MMA HQ, as well as fitness super site T-Nation, so she has a ton of expertise and insider’s experience to share.

But first, make sure you DON’T do this (unless your name is Rampage):

Now that you’ve gotten a little chuckle, let’s get down to business:

  • Interview with Chad ‘The Boss’ Leonhardt

Chad ‘The Boss’ Leonhardt first contacted me after he grabbed a copy of the Ultimate MMA Strength and Conditioning Program and he had a few questions about it.

He’s a pro MMA fighter and the head instructor of the Gladiators Academy in Shreveport/Bossier City, an affiliate of UFC Fighter Tim Credeur’s school of the same name, and a super cool dude.

You may have even seen a video of his brutal knockout of Dan Keenan in Bellator IX. If not, watch it here (it’s only 30 sec!):

Chad recently had a fight this past weekend on the Cage Kings: Breaking Point card, which he won in the first round via TKO.

I asked Chad a bunch of questions about lifestyle, MMA, training, and what it’s like to be recognized in the street by strangers.

He answers everything I throw at him and gives some great tips to anyone looking to have their first fight. Check it out:

  • Interview with Rocci Williams – UK MMA Fighter

So this is an interview that I did with Rocci Williams, a UK mixed-martial artist who recently made his comeback fight on September 5, 2009 (he’s the bloke on the left with the ripped abs).

    rocci

He’s been following the Ultimate MMA Strength and Conditioning Program for a few months now, using it for his last boxing match, and this latest MMA bout.

He shot me an email after this fight telling me the circumstances of the fight and I thought it’d be really helpful for those of you who are less experienced or about to have your first fight to hear exactly what goes through your head before a match and how to deal with it.

He shares everything he’s gone through in finding the right coaches, to being put into fights he wasn’t prepared for, to learning to be in control of what fights you take and don’t take. He’s also from the UK – so to me, the shit he says sounds pretty funny, plus he’s got a pretty good sense of humour.

Rocci also tells you how he started out doing strength and conditioning, doing all the ‘hardcore’ stuff, but it not really leading to gains where it counts – in the cage.

I’ve seen this all too often with fighters, which is one of the reasons why I put the Ultimate MMA program out there.

OK so enough background, enjoy the interview.
